You know how awful it is to work with people you don’t really care for? Well, this is the complete opposite of that feeling!

I spent several months working with Netflix to develop their first tentpole sports talk show, including vetting hosts and correspondents, crafting segments and episode templates, and hammering out the narrative structure of the series.

Since our launch, I’ve been a part of every phase of production. While we’re still getting our feet wet, here’s the typical cycle of an episode from start to finish:

  • Identify with Netflix the next series/title to highlight.

  • Binge and take copious notes on that title.

  • Pitch guests and correspondents.

  • Tailor segments and interview questions for guests and correspondents who are locked in.

  • Structure and write the script for the episode alongside Buffy Gorrilla (in a Jordan to Pippen, Kobe to Shaq-like fashion).

  • Have scripting approved by executive producers at Netflix.

  • Panic for .036 seconds when a guest has to cancel last minute due to personal or technical issues.

  • Pivot to another guest, reshape questions, and thank past me for taking so many notes while watching that week’s title.

  • Produce, direct, and creatively problem-solve recordings—via Riverside or in studio.

  • Identify social clips and story-edit episode.

  • Send it off to the insanely talented post team for video + audio polishing, and field any notes from EPs.

  • Publish episode.

  • High-five everyone on Slack.

  • Start all over again.

Hosted by Kay Adams, the Netflix Sports Club Podcast is a video-forward show that brings fans behind the scenes and into the locker rooms of the biggest Netflix series like Quarterback, F1: The Academy, and AMERICA’S SWEETHEARTS: The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, and live events like Taylor vs. Serrano and NFL Christmas Gameday!

SAMPLE EPISODES

We’re off running! Here are some samples of episodes we’ve published to date:

Jared Goff joined us to talk about the second season of Quarterback, where Netflix cameras followed him through one of the greatest seasons in Detroit Lions history. We talked to Goff about those games that still keep him up at night, playing for the fiery Dan Campbell, and becoming a dad.

(Also, I already thought Goff was incredibly easy to root, but this series and this interview made me like him even more…which is confusing as a Bears fan…)

The F1: The Academy episode highlights a great blend of red carpet conversations with drivers at the premiere, a high-profile interview with the czar of F1 Academy racing, Susie Wolff, and a fun breakdown of the series and the sport with one of our correspondents.

Taylor vs. Serrano round 3 was the biggest boxing matchup in women’s boxing history! We sat down with Katie Taylor while she prepped for the showdown, and we chatted with Ariel Helwani to give us a ringside perspective on how these two fighters have shaped the history of the sport.
